Categories of participation

The competition is divided into two groups:

1st group - pupils of elementary arts schools

This group is intended solely for pupils of elementary arts schools.

The competition consists of one round, i.e. every pupil will perform the mandatory piece and the piece of their own choice within one performance.

I./Category A – pupils aged 13 or younger

Mandatory piece: Georg Philipp Telemann: Sonata F-major TWV 41:F2
(1st mvt. Vivace)
piece of free choice which shall not exceed 6 min.

I./Category B – pupils aged 14-16

Mandatory piece: Helmer-Rayner Sinisalo: Three miniaturs for flute and piano
(No. 2 Andantino, No. 3 Allegro Vivace)
piece of free choice which shall not exceed 6 min.

I./Category C – pupils aged 17-18

Mandatory piece: Frédéric Chopin: Variations on a Theme by Rossini for flute and piano
(Theme + Variation 1, 2 and 4 without repetition)
piece of free choice which shall not exceed 10 min.

2nd group – students of secondary arts schools, conservatories and music gymnasiums

This group is intended for students of both regular and individual study programmes.
Students of conservatories, secondary arts schools and music gymnasiums who study flute simultaneously at university cannot participate in the competition.

The competition consists of two rounds, i.e. the jury will choose successful participants qualified for the 2nd round on the basis of their scores from the 1st round.

In the 1st round participants shall perform the mandatory piece only.
Successful participants qualified for the 2nd round must respect the time limit set for the piece of free choice

II./Category A – students 1st and 2nd year of conservatory or
1st year of any other school

1st round: Josef Mysliveček: Concerto in D major for flute and orchestra
(1st mvt. Allegro moderato)
2nd round: pieces of free choice, duration max. 12 min.

II./Category B – students 3rd and 4th year of conservatory or
2nd and 3rd year of any other school

1st round: Carl Philipp Stamitz: Concerto in G major op. 29 for flute and orchestra
(3rd mvt. Rondo. Allegro)
2nd round: pieces of free choice, duration max. 12 min.

II./Category C – students 5th and 6th year of conservatory or
4th year of any other school

1st round: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Concerto in G major KV 313
(1st mvt. Allegro maestoso with cadenca)
2nd round: pieces of free choice, duration max. 15 min.

The upper time limit is not to be crossed, the shorter time is allowed and will in no way concern the participation in the competition.
